The Project

The River Annan Trust

The River Annan Trust has been revitalised to act as the main organisational vehicle for managing and delivering the project activities within the River Annan catchment. It's an independent charitable entity, now being used to attract private-sector funding and oversee restoration and environmental initiatives.

NatureScot

NatureScot is a key funder and partner, administering grants through the FIRNS initiative (Facility for Investment Ready Nature in Scotland). The aim is to support nature restoration by attracting private-sector funding to meet government biodiversity targets. NatureScot's role involves providing initial financial backing and strategic support to help environmental projects, such as those managed by the River Annan Trust, become investment-ready.

National Lottery Heritage Fund

The National Lottery Heritage Fund works alongside NatureScot to deliver the FIRNS project. This organisation provides financial support for heritage, biodiversity, and environmental projects. Their involvement specifically helps bridge the gap between public-sector initiatives and private-sector investment, enabling projects to establish effective funding models for long-term sustainability.

Galloway Rivers Trust (GRT)

GRT initiated the current project and is closely linked to the newly reactivated River Annan Trust. GRT oversees conservation and biodiversity initiatives across rivers in South West Scotland, including the Annan catchment. While the River Annan Trust will eventually operate independently, GRT remains a key strategic partner, assisting in establishing the project structure and facilitating connections between conservation activities.

The River Annan Trust & District Salmon Fishery Board

The River Annan District Salmon Fishery Board manages and protects salmon and sea trout stocks within the Annan catchment. It works closely with the River Annan Trust on habitat restoration, enforcement, research, and education—balancing conservation with sustainable fishing.
